Modal PDF is designed to work on your computer: your documents are not sent to the publisher. This page describes the data we do process, and why.
Who is responsible?
The data controller is MODALB, 144 rue Paul Bellamy, 44000 Nantes, France. Contact: contact@modalbgroup.com.
The modalpdf.com website
- No account, no sign-up form, no advertising cookies.
- We measure traffic to the site with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not set cookies and provides aggregated statistics: number of visits and page views, origin, type of device and country (approximately). These statistics are used only to understand how much the site is visited and to improve it; they are neither resold nor used for advertising, and we rely on Cloudflare’s commitment not to reuse them for its own purposes. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in measuring the site’s audience. The statistics are kept for at most 13 months. You can object to this measurement by writing to contact@modalbgroup.com.
- The pages are served by Cloudflare, our hosting processor. To deliver and secure the site, Cloudflare processes visitors’ IP addresses and technical connection data, for a limited period. Cloudflare is established in the United States: the resulting data transfers rely on safeguards provided for by European regulations, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission.
Downloading the software
The software is downloaded from a storage space hosted by Cloudflare. Technical download logs may contain your IP address. We count the number of downloads of each version, day by day. This count is global: we do not try to find out who is downloading.
Purchasing a professional licence
- Payment is handled by Paddle, which collects and processes your payment and billing data for the order, VAT and fraud prevention. Paddle is responsible for that processing: see its own privacy policy.
- Paddle sends us the information needed to manage your subscription: your company name, billing address, email address, number of seats and subscription status. We do not receive your bank card details.
- Legal basis: performance of the contract, accounting and tax obligations. Accounting records are kept for 10 years, other subscription data for the duration of the subscription and then for 3 years to handle claims.
Contacting us or requesting a quote
If you write to us by email (contact, quote request), we use your address and the content of your message to reply. Legal basis: our legitimate interest (or the performance of pre-contractual measures for a quote). Retention: 3 years after the last exchange.
If you fill in the form on the More than 1,000 seats? page, this is what we receive.
- Data: only what you enter: your name, your company, your email address, the number of seats and, if you wish, your message.
- Purpose: to answer your request. Legal basis: our legitimate interest, or the performance of pre-contractual measures.
- Recipients: our sales team, and a hosting provider established in the European Union that hosts the requests as a processor, under a processing agreement compliant with the GDPR. Cloudflare’s Turnstile anti-robot check protects this form, as it does the Support page form.
- Retention period: 3 years, then deletion.
The software
- There is no account, no activation and no monitoring. It works offline.
- Certain optional features contact an external service only when you use them or leave them enabled: the update check (it requests only a public file; it can be turned off in Preferences) and the download of additional data such as text recognition languages or fonts.
- The software sends no usage statistics and does not transmit the content of your documents. We simply count, globally, the update checks received per day, to know whether new versions are being adopted.
Reporting a problem
If you write to us from the Support page (for example from the software’s Help menu), this is what we receive.
- Data: only what you enter: your message, your email address (optional), and the Modal PDF version and operating system (pre-filled, editable). No document, no file and no information about your computer is sent automatically. Do not write confidential information in your message.
- Purpose: to handle your report and, if you gave an email address, to reply to you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in fixing problems in our software.
- Recipients: the MODALB support team, and a hosting provider established in the European Union that hosts the reports as a processor, under a processing agreement compliant with the GDPR.
- Technical provider: Cloudflare provides the Turnstile anti-robot check that protects the form and processes your message in transit as a processor; it may process technical connection data to tell a person from a robot. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Retention period: your report is kept for 12 months after it is closed, then deleted. A report left unanswered is closed no later than 12 months after it is received.
- Objection: as this processing is based on our legitimate interest, you may object to it at any time.
Your rights
You may request access to, rectification, erasure or restriction of the data concerning you, object to its processing or request its portability, by writing to contact@modalbgroup.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
